● Introduction:

In accordance with current regulations governing human subjects research, this lecture aims to strengthen participants’ understanding of the knowledge, regulations, and research practices related to sports science research and academic ethics. Beginning with the role and authority of Institutional Review Board (IRB) review, the lecture will introduce the types of research under IRB oversight, responsible review bodies, the scope and key considerations of different review categories, and essential ethical considerations related to informed consent.

The lecture will also explore issues related to sports science research and common deficiencies identified during ethical review, including research participants' rights and protections. Through case studies in sports science research, participants will further examine the collection, use, protection, and secondary use of research materials such as personal data and biological specimens, along with the relevant consent procedures, principles, and ethical concerns, thereby gaining a deeper understanding of practical issues at the intersection of sports science research and academic ethics.

This lecture covers 2 hours of academic ethics courses in Category 4. Master’s and doctoral students (after 2018 admissions) must obtain at least 6 hours across at least three categories to fulfill the requirement. Participants must make up any shortfall in course hours on their own.
