2025.05.09 NTU Royal Palm Lecture Series - Tuan-hua David Ho, Academician of Academia Sinica

National Taiwan University has established the Royal Palm Lecture Series as a campus-wide special lecture series aimed at expanding the perspectives of students and faculty members. This series invites distinguished scholars or professionals from both domestic and international backgrounds in academia or industry who have demonstrated exceptional achievements or global impact to deliver speeches and participate in academic exchanges at the university. Tuan-hua David Ho, Academician of Academia Sinica, will provide the lecture. All members of the university are enthusiastically encouraged to participate.

● Introduction of Speaker:
Tuan-hua David Ho is currently a Distinguished Visiting Chair at the Institute of Plant and Microbial Biology, Academia Sinica in Taipei, where he served as the Director from 2003 to 2008.  He was a Professor of Biology at Washington University in St. Louis for more than 30 years, and remains as a professor emeritus and consultant.  David received his Ph.D training in biochemistry at Michigan State University, and postdoctoral training at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in molecular genetics.  His research interest has been centered on 1) hormonal regulation and signaling in plants, 2) function of stress proteins, and 3) biochemical conversion of agricultural wastes to biofuels and biomaterials.  He has been recognized as one of the pioneers in adopting molecular genetic tools in investigating how plants work.  He has trained more than 60 graduate students and postdoctoral fellows, and several dozens of college students.  Professor Ho has served on editor boards of various international journals and review panels for many federal and private funding agencies in USA, Taiwan and other countries.  He has also been a consultant for several biotech companies.  He is an elected member (“Academician”) of Academia Sinica in Taiwan, the Academy for the Developing World (TWAS), a fellow of American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) and a fellow of the American Society of Plant Biologists (ASPB).  He was President-elect, President, and Immediate Past President of ASPB from 2010 to 2012.   In 2024, he was recognized by ASPB for the prestigious Charles Barnes Honorary Life Membership Award.  He has been appointed Honorary Chair Professor in National Taiwan University, National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University, National Chung Hsing University, National Cheng Kung University and Chinese Medical University (Taichung).
