Course Information

• A maximum of 3 credits from MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courses) is counted toward the general education requirement. The courses include:

  • Tang Poetry (Professor Li-Chuan Ou of Chinese Literature; 1 credit; Gen Edu’s “Literature and Arts (A1)” area)

    • Students are required to attend an on-site exam, in addition to completion of the online requirement. The exam is scheduled to be held on May 30^th (Sat.), 2020; the exact timeslot and venue are TBA.

    • Grading: 20% online requirement and 80% on-site exam.

  • General Physics (1) (Professor Shi-Wei Chu of Physics; 1 credit; Gen Edu’s “Physical Science (A7)” area)

    • Students are required to attend an on-site exam, in addition to completion of the online requirement. The exam is scheduled to be held on May 30^th (Sat.), 2020; the exact timeslot and venue are TBA.

    • Grading: 20% online requirement and 80% on-site exam.

  • Experimental Economics: Behavioral Game Theory (Professor Joseph Tao-yi Wang of Economics; 1 credit; Gen Edu’s “Civil Awareness and Social Analysis (A5)” area, “Quantitative Analysis and Mathematics (A6)” area)

    • In addition to completion of the online requirement, students are required to submit a final research proposal to the TA by June 5^th (Fri.), 2020.

    • The final research proposal weighs for 100%, Note of style is TBA (this final research proposal shall not be the same one submitted on Coursera).

  • The Way of Toxicity: Food Safety (Professor Chih-Kang Chiang of Toxicology; 1 credit; Gen Edu’s “Physical Science (A7)” area, “Life Science (A8)” area)

    • Both of Food Safety & Toxicology and Food Safety＆Risk Analysis are indispensable, none can be excluded.

    • Students are required to attend an on-site exam, in addition to completion of the online requirement. The exam is scheduled to be held on May 30^th (Sat.), 2020; the exact timeslot and venue are TBA.

    • Grading: 40% online requirement and 60% on-site exam.

  • Programming for Business Computing in Python (Professor Ling-Chieh Kung and Hsin-Min Lu of Information Management; 2 credit; Gen Edu’s “Quantitative Analysis and Mathematics (A6)” area)

    • All of Programming for Business Computing in Python (1), Programming for Business Computing in Python (2) and Programming for Business Computing in Python (3) are indispensable, none can be excluded.

    • Students are required to attend an on-site exam, in addition to completion of the online requirement. The exam is scheduled to be held on May 30^th (Sat.), 2020; the exact timeslot and venue are TBA. Students are required to bring their own laptop installed with Python ver. 3.5.2 for this on-site exam.

    • Grading: 40% online requirement and 60% on-site exam.

  • East Asian Confucianisms: Humanism (Professor Chun-Chie Huang of Center for General Education; 1 credit; Gen Edu’s “Philosophy and Moral Reasoning (A4)” area)

    • Both of East Asian Confucianisms: Humanism (1) and East Asian Confucianisms: Humanism (2) are mutual conditional and integral, none can be excluded.

    • In addition to completion of the online requirement, students are required to submit a final report to the TA by June 5^th (Fri.), 2020.

    • The Submission of final report weighs for 100%.

• All of the above-mentioned 6 courses are taught in Chinese.

Application Procedure

• Upload the course completion proof page (pdf) and submit your score to the Application System.

Important Schedule

• Application Period: 9 am of February 24^th, 2020 to 5 pm of March 16^th, 2020

• Upload Period: 9 am of February 24^th, 2020 to 5 pm of May 18^th, 2020 (for those who cannot complete the aforementioned procedures by May 18^th, 2020 are deemed as the ones who rescind the application)

Notes

• Students are required to log in Coursera in order to earn the credit(s) of MOOCs.

• There might be pop-up reminder on Coursera to suggest you to reset your course deadlines. Please ignore that reminder and submit your work and complete course as scheduled.

• Courses on Coursera include peer reviewed assignments, please note:

  • The instructor or the teaching assistants will grade the assignments ONLY IF there are less than 10 applicants; otherwise, peer evaluation is the indispensable procedure to fulfill the online requirement.

  • Please be sure to submit your peer-reviewed assignments in time to get enough reviews (i.e., you are strongly recommended to log in and take course(s) ASAP to get enough peer reviews in fulfillment of online requirement).

  • Except for the foresaid reasons, neither excuse nor request for make-up remediation afterward is acceptable.

• Credit(s) earned from MOOCs during spring semester, 2020, can be counted toward general education requirement ONLY. If the course is offered by the student’s major department, it WILL NOT be counted toward the fulfillment of the student’s general education requirement.

• Online courses will not be counted as graduation requirement if courses with the same course title are taken.

• Any forgery or fake will be penalized according to relevant law.

• Once applications are approved, then students will be informed to take the on-site exam (or to submit the final report/research proposal).

• The course(s) and credit(s) earned from MOOCs will be marked on the transcript; the grade will not be counted to semester GPA nor graduation GPA.

• No need to procure the certificate issued by Coursera as the testimonial.
