1. General Core Curriculum: 18 credits required in total

• Chinese Literature

          6 credits

           With the goal of improving the students’ Chinese Language proficiency and cultural accomplishment.

• Foreign Languages

          6 credits

           With the goal of training the students’ foreign language skills.

• History

          4 credits

           Focusing on the reading of classic texts with the goal of improving the students’ knowledge of history and their ability in historical dialectics.

• “Constitution” and “Civic Education”

           2 credits 

            Students can select one of these two alternatives to develop their knowledge of the “Constitution” or to raise their modern civic awareness.

2. Liberal Education Curriculum: 12 credits required in total

• The Liberal Education Curriculum covers 4 subject areas, namely “Humanities (G1)”, “Social Sciences (G2)”, “Material Sciences (G3)”, and “Life Sciences (G4).” Effective prior to academic year 2007.
• “Humanities (G1)” includes current courses in “Literature and Arts (A1)”, “Historical Thinking (A2)”, “World Civilization (A3)”, and “Philosophy and Moral reasoning (A4)”.
• “Social Sciences (G2)” includes the current course in “Civil Awareness and Social Analysis (A5)”.
• “Materials Science (G3)” includes the current courses in “Quantitative Analysis and Mathematics (A6)” and “Materials Science (A7)”.
• “Life Sciences (G4)” includes the current course in “Life Science (A8)”.
• Students are required to select courses only from study areas that are outside their own department. To find out the area of the curriculum that your department falls under please refer to the “Table of department/curriculum correspondence.”
