National Taiwan University has established the Royal Palm Lecture Series as a campus-wide special lecture series aimed at expanding the perspectives of students and faculty members. This series invites distinguished scholars or professionals from both domestic and international backgrounds in academia or industry who have demonstrated exceptional achievements or global impact to deliver speeches and participate in academic exchanges at the university. The lecture will be delivered by Dr. Way Kuo, Emeritus President of City University of Hong Kong. All members of the university are enthusiastically encouraged to participate.

l Introduction of Speaker:
Dr. Way Kuo served as President of City University of Hong Kong from 2008 to 2023 and was granted the title of Emeritus President by the University Council as an exceptional honor. President Kuo, an expert in systems engineering, has authored numerous works on system reliability, earning him recognition as a classic in the field. He was elected as a member of the National Academy of Engineering in the United States early in his career. He is also a member of the Academia Sinica and an International Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering.
In 2019 and 2020, he was awarded the French National Order of the Legion of Honor by the President of France and the Knight of the Order of the Star of Italy by the President of Italy, respectively. In 2022, he received the Management Medal from the Management Science Society of the Republic of China.
Before coming to Hong Kong, President Kuo served in the Marine Corps and was awarded the title Outstanding Naval Reserve Officer for the 22nd term. Before that, he held positions as Dean of the College of Engineering at the University of Tennessee, senior management roles at Oak Ridge National Laboratory of the U.S. Department of Energy, and consultant positions at multinational technology companies.
2011, following the Fukushima nuclear accident in Japan, he became the first foreign expert invited to visit Fukushima as a safety and reliability expert. His report on atomic power, titled "Critical Issues in Nuclear Power," has been translated and distributed in English, Japanese, French, Russian, and simplified Chinese.
