The Learning Journey of An-chi Wang

l   Introduction of Speaker:

Prof. An-chi Wang holds a Ph.D. in Literature from NTU and was conferred the title of Professor Emeritus after her retirement. She is currently the Artistic Director of the GuoGuang Opera Company. Combining the roles of playwright, drama critic, traditional opera researcher, and professor, she has made outstanding contributions in both academic and artistic fields. Her accolades include the NTU "Hu Shih Memorial Chair Professorship," the Outstanding and Excellence Awards from the National Science Council, and the Distinguished Teaching Awards from NTHU and NTU.

 

Influenced by her family from a young age, Prof. Wang developed a deep passion for Peking opera, which she has dedicated her life to. She has actively worked to modernize traditional Taiwanese opera, leveraging her extensive background in classical literature to create emotionally rich and elegantly styled works, reflecting contemporary thinking and showcasing the expressive aesthetics of conventional opera. Her original scripts have earned numerous prestigious awards, including the Golden Tripod Award, Literary Creation Award, Kui Xing Award, The Golden Statue Arts Award, and the Golden Melody Award for Best Lyricist. In 1988, she was recognized as one of the Ten Outstanding Young Women for her achievements in theater. She has served as the Artistic Director of the GuoGuang Opera Company for over 20 years, passionately pursuing traditional opera's modernization and literary enhancement, earning widespread acclaim and numerous honors.
